Where has the time gone? I have been so preoccupied at work. I have some good news (or is it?)! I got promoted to Biologist Supervisor at my lab. What a change! Now rather than just concentrating on my work, I have to be worried about everyone else’s work too! And their schedule, questions, behavior, etc… but it is a labor of love. I have such a big heart for my lab, the people there, and the work we do that I am happy to be working my tail off for the lab’s greater good.
Being a supervisor is such a different prospective. I like that I have been in the various Biologist positions at my lab because I now can see both sides. It gives me a better understanding of where people are coming from and a certain amount of compassion. I know how it feels to answer to someone… and remember things I always wished for from management staff. That is something that is always on my mind. What did people whisper behind the last supervisor’s back? What did they/we complain about? How can I make it better?

One of the reasons I took this position is because with state jobs, you have to move up a certain path. You cannot be eligible for other positions if you haven’t taken the right steps. I also thought I could really help the lab. Sometimes new blood is good, but I don’t think it was the right time for someone new to step in and change things around. We had already undertaken way too many changes in a short period of time. It would have been stressful.
So what can you expect from me? More blog posts! I will continue to share my experiences as a Biologist and also as a Supervisor. You will also see tidbits from my home life… primarily my feathered and furry friends.
Glad to be back! Have a wonderful weekend!
